Looking for a

Freelance WordPress Developer

So you need a content management system (CMS) for your next website and you need to hire a freelance WordPress developer? Well perhaps I can help...

Freelance WordPress developer for hire

From my studio in Cambridgeshire I work in partnership with freelance designers, design agencies and direct clients as a freelance WordPress developer. I build bespoke WordPress websites tailored to each specific project. I also take great pride in saying I don’t use any off the shelf WordPress themes either.

What is a CMS and why should I have one?

A CMS or content management system is a application which allows non-developers to manage their own website content without the need to learn any code. Once your site is built you are free to add, edit and manage your site. All without having to rely on your developer and pay for any additional development costs.

Why choose WordPress?

The beauty of WordPress is in its simplicity, its intuitive interface has played a part in its ever growing popularity. If you can use a word processor you’ll be up and running with this content management system in no time! Below you’ll find some other reasons as to why your next website should be powered by this hugely popular software.

1 The world's most installed CMS

Established in 2003, it is estimated that WordPress now powers over 60 million websites worldwide. Its popularity is huge, driving the sites of many big names including the BBC, Ebay and Sony to name a few.

2 Open source

Unlike some propriety content management systems, WordPress is open-source, free to use and modify. I can avoid costly licensing fees that some other proprietary CMS systems charge and pass these savings back onto you.

3 Easy to learn and use

You want to be using your website, not battling to understand it. Fortunately WordPress is arguably one of the most intuitive and user-friendly solutions out there. You’ll find support through thousands of online tutorials and articles including the official support site.

4 Safe and secure

Security is key. We all value our data and need assurance that wherever that data resides, it is free from any vulnerabilities. In comparison to its competitors, WordPress’s frequency and installation of security updates is second to none.

5 Extendable via plugins

Need to extend WordPress to suit a need or requirement? Its vast library of over 30,000 plugins will have you covered. Best of all, many are free and developed by and for this incredible community of users!

WordPress features

Wordpress software running through a users web browser

Edit content from any device, anywhere

WordPress software runs through your browser. This means as long as you have an active internet connection you can manage your site and its content from anywhere. This isn’t just limited to desktop or laptop computers either. WordPress software works great on iPad, iPhone and Android powered devices.

Easily add and edit text

Creating, editing and styling your site text is a breeze using the built in WordPress visual editor. Using your browser you can easily style your text including: alignment, bold, underline or strike though. You can even change colours and insert images or video from services like YouTube or Vimeo.

Disaster recovery with revisions

Whilst you’re creating your content WordPress is working in the background, creating a backup of each and every change you make. Made a mistake or want to roll back to a previous version? With WordPress’s built in revisions feature you can recover from disaster or reverse changes with ease.

Adding images to your WordPress site using the media manager

Easily add media & images

Adding media & images to your site couldn’t be easier. Find the file you’re looking for and simply drag and drop it into the browser window. Once uploaded you can name it, resize it and add it to any page you need. Simple!

Add and manage additional users

Content management systems typically have multiple users, including a master user. With WordPress you can create additional users in seconds and assign them certain permissions to restrict or allow access to certain parts of your site.

Updating WordPress and plugin software using the update manager

One-click software updates

You’ll get regular email notifications when updates for new features, security patches and ongoing performance tweaks are available. With one click you can install and keep your site up-to-date. If you’re too busy to do this yourself, you can even enable your site to automatically install these updates.

What’s included in the service?

Responsive websites

Responsive web design and development is the practice of creating a website that re-aranges its content to accommodate any given screen size or device. Some people charge for this functionality – I don’t. Responsive websites come at no extra charge as part this service.

Search engine optimised

My freelance WordPress developer service is SEO friendly and optimised for the major search engines. At an additional charge I can work with you to help organise and optimise your site content. This will promote better SEO and help to enhance your page rankings.

Browser compatible

As detailed in my technology overview page, I use leading industry standard techniques that comply with W3C guidelines. They ensure your new website will be efficient on load times, error free and compatible with all major browsers.

EU Cookie-law compliant

Since the introduction of the EU cookie law in 2011 all websites need to adhere to regulations relating to the use of cookies. You can learn more about this law and what cookies are here. All websites developed by myself are compliant with this law using what is referred to as “implied consent”.

Initial training

WordPress is renowned for its simplicity and ease of use. As part of my freelance WordPress developer service I will provide an introduction to the software and training on how to use and get the most out of your new website. If you’re London based, local to Cambridgeshire or in the surrounding area this can be done face-to-face.

Ongoing support and maintenance

Long after your site has gone live updates to keep your site secure and optimised will become available. For a small monthly fee, I can provide regular maintenance of your site including backups of your site database and files and the installation of any plugin and WordPress core updates.

How much will it cost?

Unlike some, I don’t like to bill by the hour. Instead I’ll review the requirements of your project and provide a flat-rate cost for the development of your WordPress website. I find this is much more transparent and beneficial for both parties. The costs of a typical project will vary depending on the scope and scale, so for a quotation please get in touch.
